I was afraid to find out how much it cost!

I guess you can build a similar system on your own for the cost of 15 $ from parts available at Radio Shack. It will be one of my winter projects. I´ll keep you informed if it works.

Hey what was that soil moisture sensor that Jim Roberts was using?

I didn't pay too much attention to that really high tech stuff.....since the budget wouldn't allow.

I don't know if this applies to all soil moisture sensors, but I borrowed one from my neighbor this summer and it was only accurate for a few hours before it needed to be pulled out and then reinserted into the ground. I guess the soil around the probe spike was drying up or losing contact with the probe surface, so I'd have to make a new insertion to get the soil in direct contact with the probe surface again. Makes me wonder how accurate an automated system would be?

Erin.
