should one stop fertilizing while trying to get a pumpkin to set i have seen this discussed some where but have been looking for 2 days my significant other is starting to get a little upset that i spend so much time on the web

Withold Nitrogen preferably for the week or two prior to & after fruitset. Maybe high P in preperation especially if blossoms are scarce or soil tests low P. DON'T overdo it.
Once set...POTASH.
