jeff,
An AG plant needs somewhere near 3# of nitrogen during the entire season. I fertilize once a week. Nitrogen should be added slowly over a period of time rather than all at once. If you fertilize heavily, and then follow by a lot of watering, this could spell disaster. I really don't know what routine of fertilizing you have been using, but would advise at this point, that you don't do anything drastically different. Up here, our growth slows way down in Sept, when I don't apply ANY fertilizer at all.Hope this helps! kilr

Didn't mean to worry you, it probably will be O.K. This whole hobby is about taking it to the MAX (without blowing themup?) The nitrogen in the pound of fertilizer you planned to use is only 13% of a pound, not very much at all.I add extra potassium from mid (or early) Aug. till the end of Aug. Pumpkin growth can slow down and pick back up again, as long as it doesn't sit there and do nothing for more than a week! Good luck!
