Going Green

Get your soil right. Balanced with all the micronutrients and weed free. Now how much water and fertilizer do you apply daily to the stump area and how much to the vine area. Which is better the drench or foliar feed. Do you change the type of fertilizer throughout the growth cycle.

The water requirements will change from week to week many things will effect that.

Drenching will deliver more nutrients to the plant but also more water,foliar will give a quick feeding to the plant , use both methods

Tough question to answer...everyone garden/patch/conditions are different ...I guess it depends how big your shooting for...that being said if your soil is right... I would think 1" of water a week along with a weekly feeding of "the right " fertilizer for the stage of growth should keep you healthy and growing...if your going for a state or world record, dunno really ..there's lots of fertilizer "programs out there"... Choose one and stick to the recommendations and go from there...(assuming that your soil is in order)...I've got a new patch this year... I mixed what I thought would be a good soil... 2 plants taking up maybe 800 sqft?... Giving them minimal food and water...(100 gallons Neptune harvest mix and maybe 300gallons water to date)...mostly because they still look green and healthy .. We inly let them wilt a bit from underwatering once(so I could see for myself what "too dry" was.....fruits are growing at a better pace than our 1071 from last year.. I'm keeping a close eye on the leaves to show me any deficiency ...if we got a lot of early rain here like other parts of the state might be a different story all together...I'm learning a lot this year being able to watch four different plants grown with different methods and soil...sorry for the ramble.. Oh!..(for new growers) Also very important...mykos..or "mightgocrazy" as I like to call it... It's a must...it helps what's going on under the soil surface which for all intensive purposes is probably the most important part of the grow...

I top dress every two weeks with granular stuff.. NATURES PRIDE BLOOM....

we are so dry I have been watering 150 gallons per plant per day... also been drenching all the time...
there are a lot of ways to do it.. the number one is find a system that works for you and follow it.

From what I see, both foliar and drench are still popular, but people are leaning towards drenches to avoid premature aging of leaves. Again, just what I am seeing and people I have talked to who are proven. You are pretty far south in Missouri right? Do you grow in the orange clay?

In 12 years I have added compost and rabbit manure every year. I never had orange clay but it was the first three years clay. Now it is loam. I just had 1 1/2" rain and on my 1000 square feet that is 900 gallons of rain water. The pumpkins stopped growing with colder Temps and excess rain. How can I get them charged up again?

From my experience , it is up to the pumpkin as to whether it will start growing again if the soil dries out and the weather warms up. It is a good sign if there is any growth at all that it could rebound but who knows how much.
