Hey folks, I'm curious what growers are using for a mixing rate of Cal Mag Max. I've used it over the past three years mixing 1oz per gallon (got that rate from Tom Bohica in a BP post). I use as a folair spray once a week. The reason I ask, that rate seems high based on the mixing rate on the bottle (1quart per 100 gallons of water). What are others using as a mixing rate? Thanks in advance.

we have used it at 1 oz per gallon and have never had it cause a problem. For the last 2 years we have used it primarily as a drench and based on our tissue tests, I think it is more effective than foliar application.

Agreed with cntrboy....we use it as a drench and not as a foliar. If you foliar feed too many products on a regular basis, you will age the leaves on your plant prematurely. Everytime you foliar feed, you are aging your plants.

I learned that one the hard way Glenn. Looking at the health of your plants late season,,, I can tell you hardly feed through the leaves.

Shhhhh Chris, don't let the local guys catch on. I'm telling Spambie and Richmond Dave that they should be foliar feeding something everyday...

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I spray something every two nights and my leaves are usually toast by August. I'm considering changing my routine, but right don't have an efficient way to drench. What do you folks use, and what drench rate do you use for a product like Cal Mag? Thanks again.

Drenching doesn't have to be elaborate. you can drench with a 25 gallon Rubbermaid container and a plastic cup. Mix your drench up in the container and use the cup to spread it out amongst the plant.
you could rig something with a pump and a hose end sprayer.
Ive seen people that use a length of 1 1/2 inch plastic pipe with a watering can full of mixture. They drag the pipe backward as they pour the drench in the pipe.
Some use an ezflow or venturi type injector in their watering system.
The important thing is to get it down and then water it in to both spread it out and get it down to the roots.
As for rate...you really need to look at the area you are covering and the recommended rate per 1000 sq ft or acre and figure up how much product to put down. The water is just to spread it out.

You will be fine Clarke and thank the man for all the work of putting 25 loads of horse crap on your patch with a wheel barrow. Good Luck.
