Does anyone having any advice on when and how to apply molasses?

Most of the growers in our area buy / use feed grade molasses. Most farm supply stores sell it in 5 gallon pails for around $20

find an X-Cell feed distributor. There is one in Tacoma don't know about up north.
About $8 for five gallon bucket if you supply the bucket.
Much cheaper than feed store. I think Stan paid about 23 dollars for five gallon.
Got close to 15 gallon for the same price.

Thanks for the responses but I know where to get it, I was wondering more about how to use it. When do you put it on? Do you do it in the fall or the spring? How much do you apply? Do you just spread it on top or do you till it in etc?

Molasses is just sugar for the soil microbes to feed on. most microbes are going dormant or at least slowing down in northern areas. winter rains will also leach it out. save it til Spring as a wake up call for your patch.

I had similar issues asking this question, some only use it because someone told em to, but not sure why it's used! I use dry as spring ammendment and liquid as a foliar once a week, and also as a soil drench. Also beet pulp for cattle feed will add sugars!

Unsulfured blackstrap molasses is an excellent food source for both bacteria and fungi in your soil.

I can't comment on how most growers are using it.

I use it in making aerated compost tea, and also as a soil drench (think of it as a light fertilizer application).

It should assist in growing more bacteria, so spraying your patch in the Fall may help increase decomposition rates of any organic matter/mulch prior to Spring.

I realize it's not a complete answer but I hope that helps.

Does feed molasses have a shelf life? I have some from 2 years ago. Not sure if it is safe to use, but I don't see why it wouldn't be.
