How long does it take for chlorine to evaporate from water setting in the sun in open barrels??

The city will take routine samples all the time - tell them you want your house tested as one of their stops. When the guy is there, have him run a chlorine check on your tank after it has been sitting for however long you normally let it sit. that will give you an idea.

Im just filling 2- 50 gallon rain Barrels,I dont have a tank,this is temporary set up,till I can use river water again in a few days! I found out its 24 hrs for chlorine to evaporate. Thanks for help!

as long as the city is using chlorine vs chloramine, which does not gas-off like chlorine.
