Hey Steve - What is the going rate for granular fertilizer on the east coast?
I picked up a 50 lb bag of granular 16-16-16 for $8.75. Is that with in the ball park? I thought it was pretty cheap. The Calcium Nitrate is next on the list.

Ceis,
I'd assume that was a bag of commercial all chemical (soluble)? I sell a 19-19-19 for about that much which actually represents a little better value because it doesn't contain any filler. 16-16-16 would contain about 320 lbs of filler per ton.
Now my 14-14-14 100% Poly Coated slow release with micronutrients runs more like $15.00 when purchased one bag at a time. But because very little nutrient is lost to volatilization or leaching, it still represents very good value.
But then I can ship you a 20 ton trailer load of 10-10-10 garden fertilizer about $.08 per pound ($4.00 for 50 lbs).
Urea is still expensive right now, but it's coming down sharply very soon. So cost is relative. You did good.

Good shopping Booth. $.1345 per pound is cheap for retail. Even for 16-16-16. What's up with all that filler though? Must be a west coast thing. I checked & see that we make & sell that analysis there too. We don't see much demand for the "light weights" up here anymore. It's an economic thing. More bags to handle & a slightly higher cost since you're paying for little chips of limestone that do absolutely nothing but take up space in the bag. HomeDepot stocks our 14-14-14 100% Slow release with micros around here. No filler. But the ploymer coating & the micronutrients take up space in the bag. We can't make it any higher in anaylsis without losing some of it's integrity. Interesting.

occasionally they get 20-20-20 and 15-15-15 but not too often. it`s usually around 8 bucks for the 20 (50lbs) and for some reason the 15 is around 9 bucks for a 20 lb bag. ammonium sulfate is $2.69 for 20lbs but their ammonium phosphate is way high $10.00-20lbs. is phosphate harder to get than sulfate? it all looks and tastes the same to me! (kinda like salt)
