Has anyone tried Orthenex? It's a systemic pesticide and fungicide. The active ingredient for the pesticide is supposed to be the same as isotox. What kind of success (or failure) have you had? Thanks...

Orthonex contains 2 active ingredients. Acephate for insect control. Systemic that lasts for up to 2 weeks. Good stuff. Triforine for fungus disease & actually supresses a couple mites. Also a local penetrant. Only lasts for 7-10 days.
Mostly marketted to Rose growers. Should be OK in a pinch, but I don't know about it as a mainstay material. Though I've used & been happy with Acephate (Orthene) for years, I've not used this preperation myself.

G, Orhtene's probably not a great choice for Whiteflies. Whiteflies are tough. They reproduce quickly. So there will be all life stages (eggs, nymphs, & adults) as soon as their presance has been detected. Since oils & soaps only control eggs & some nymphs, they don't work well alone. Conventional contact & systemic insectides only work on the nymphs & adults. So eggs go untouched. The key to good control is to target all stages with a combined approach of both machanical destruction of eggs with oil or insecticidal soap & a broad spectrum quick acting contact insecticide.
The best results my customer's get (I rarely see Whiteflies here) is the combination of M-Pede Insecticidal Soap & Permethrin Pro. These are applied in close alternating rotation (like 2-3 days apart) weekly for 3 weeks.
Orthene isn't a fungicide so it won't control any diseases by itself.
