My plants are around 500 to 550 square ft. I thought I read somewhere that inch of rain was equal to about 100 gallons per 500 square ft? I have been putting down about 100 gallons a plant everyother day. Is this to much?

Inch of rain for 500 sq ft is more like 320 gallons of water. You are putting 300 and 400 gallons every other week. Might be a little on the high side during the 400 gallon weeks but I doubt it will hurt anything. Watch your plant - if the leaves yellow or roots start coming to the surface then you are watering too much. Are you using any fungicides?

Newman,
Thanks I thought that I was putting a inch on every other day. Plants are green and look pretty good. I have noticed some roots on top of the ground but not a lot. Yes I am useing organic drench fungicide and funginal for powdery mildew.
My plants are way better than they have ever been with the new patch and new set up in watering. I should have enough plant to push the pumpkins now. Not happening yet though.
Thanks again for correct amount.

Drew,
How much depends on some other factors.
How you're putting the water on. Drip, sprinklers, by hand, etc..
Soil makeup. How your soil drains, if its sandy, or clay, etc...
Weather. How hot is it, how much cloud cover, etc...
Someone can't really say that you should be putting on an exact number of gallons per day/week. You'll have to keep an eye on the soil and plant, like what Newman pointed out, to see how much you need to give them. Over time you'll figure it out.
I see you live in Harrisville. My girlfriend goes to SRU. I've been thru Harrisville, and stopped at the Sheetz, many times in the last couple years.

I use over head sprinklers. Soil is loam mixture with sand and gravel under this. My wife works at Slippery Rock. We live between Harrisville and Forestville off of Route 8 in Ethan Hill developement.
