After planting, I watered the plants with their special sauce. How soon should they be watered again? The ground under the hoop is dry, but I also want the roots to span out as much as they can when they first start growing. Any thoughts/help is greatly appreciated.

Mark, ow you're gonna learn how to read your plant. A happy plant never droops, heat stress, lack of water, disease, etc are very similar on first symptoms. keep the plant watered. expand the cirles out to encourage the roots to look for the water. Plant coloration will also dictate amendments....if it's leaves are bluish and bloated chances are the area has to much nitrogen...You'll get it..takes a little time but you can hear the plant tell you what it needs and when. a lot of it depends for me on the amount of heat and wind and especially humidity. a north east dry wind sucks a lot of moisture out of a plant and the upper couple inches of the soil. but still, do no give in to watering unless the plant asks for it like alex said. you will be able to tell eventually. if it is similar temps and conditions for several days in a row and you see the plant flaggin a bit more than the previous days...it is time for a drink. do not confuse heat stress with them needing a drink. if it is too hot for the little ones, i like a quick misting to cool them off and this way you do not have the urge to water them too much. a mini shade cloth over the small plants helps too with heat stress on real hot sunny days.

my soil under the hoops dries out really quick, even after digging down a couple inches.....probably due to my heating cables......keep it moist....that is what i "Try" to do.
