soil results back today. pH is 7.4 so need to acidify. Report says to add 15 lb. of sulfur per 1000 sq.feet. However, it states in the narrative that sulfate-sulur (elemental sulfur) has NO acidifying power. I'm confused. What then should I add to bring the pH down to about 6.8 Anyone??

sulfate is avaiable to plants-elemental is not avialable to plant and lowers ph

I will be adding elemental sulfur 90% to my patch. I'll be using much more than 15 lb/1000ft2. almost 50 lbs
It takes a long time for the pH to go down using Sulfur. If your aluminum levels are in check you could try Aluminum Sulphate.

any idea on application rates for aluminum sulphate? My aluminum levels are low and I need to acidify before plants go in the ground around May 10th. Decided against the iron containing sulphate because iron is already very high in soil.

7.4 isn't so bad. I would add some sulphur, 15 lbs./1K sq.ft. sounds right on. Test the area again this fall. The patch that produced the 1131, 1999 WR here had a pH of 7.4.

Last spring I was at 7.8. I added elemental sulphur and this year I am at 7.1. It will work.

Andy, really 7.4 isn't that awful bad, I have heard and seen many growers like Jack Larue grow a 1420 lber in Ph like yours. Alot of growers like to start high beginning of the season and by the end of the season it will drop right to where they want it to be. If it was me Id let it go and not mess with it.
