I was hand watering this year and decided that I need to do something else to save time. I would like to go with a sprinkler system about 4 ft. high.
I purchased a whiz head to try and I do not like it. It wets a nice diameter circle but it does very little to wet the ground closer to the center. They seem to use alot of water also (4 gal/min.) Next year I will have 3 plants in a 20 ft X 80ft patch. I'm sure I will need several for good coverage ,so ;
what do you suggest ? I want the ground to be wet from the sprinkler all the way out to the 20 ft width of my garden.

You could use under canopy watering like Thad Starr uses. I used Netafim Woblers this year with success. You can get them in different GPH. Mine threw a even pattern about 20ft radius at 55psi on 3ft risers. Dripworks and several others have them, they are fairly cheap. You will probibly get alot of replies to this one. Something to think about also with overhead watering is the promotion of Mildews on the leaves also. Just my 2 pennys. Rick

I am planning on watering during the early afternoon hours. Also I will definatly be aplying fungicide .
Rick, surely your system was throwing water on top of your leaves wasn't it ?? What time of day did you water with that system ?
Thanks, I'll check those out tomarrow. Lee

Yeah I was wetting the leaves. I usually watered about 5:30pm most of the leaves were dry by nightfall but I had some issues with Powdery and Downey Mildews this year. For a low buck system it worked well. I was wrong on the manufacturer they are by Senninger mini wobbler. I have the lime 7/64" nozzle which is 2.01gpm at 35psi with a 43' diameter. On these they have nozzles down to .68gpm at 35psi which is the light blue 1/16" nozzle. Its diameter at 3' is 34'. I'll see if I can get a pic tomorrow that you can see the pattern on.

what the heck is wrong with impacts? If you like spending money, wade rain makes nice ones with stands. $50
better: use t posts (or old pipe or whatever you got kicking around) with impact zip tied to top you can buy 2 packs at HD on spikes for a few bucks

Nothing wrong with impacts but sprinklers like the wobblers have more even coverage, you can figure how many GPM you are putting out and they are real cheap $1.50. I ran 8 of them to cover my patch this year through my irrigation timer. I can only run 2-3 impacts at a time and get good coverage even at 50psi. Last good brass impact I purchased a few months ago I gave $24 bucks for, but if you need to only throw a partial pattern or want to change it then yes they are the way to go.
