Hello.......I gave my pumpkin nitrigen last night trying to help[ the growth a little more. I used aluminum sulfate for a couple of reasons. It was on cheaper,it was turn to buy dog food , and it was stronger than blood meal but weaker than urea. My plant is wilty and is starting to turn blue. I agve a lot of water to maybe balence out the nitrogen. Finnaly I gave it about a hand full of aluminm sulfate.

If you have some micro spinklers and your soil has good drainage, just leave the spinklers on all day to try to flush the nitrogen away from burning your roots. This won't work if you don't have good drainage like deep sandy soil.
I have only used aluminum sulfate to green up grass.

Are you sure you wanted to use aluminium sulfate to add nitrogen ?? There's no nitrogen in it. But, now it sounds like there may be aluminium toxicity in the soil... if the new growth looks bad, scoop up the top layer of soil and replace it with newer (un-compromised) soil and also follow Carol's advise. Opps I think I was thinking Ammonium Sulfate. I wonder if Giant Pumpkin Peep also has the names confused.

I just went out to my garage to double check. It is ammonium sulfate. I wasn't paying atention at the nersery. It says 21-0-0 on the back. Sorry every1 for getting it messed up. Also the smaller leaves seem un-affected.

I hope you didnt give the whole bag! I would turn on the sprinkler and let it stay on untill it floods the surrounding area, thae trouble with Ammonium sulfate is once you put it on and water it your pretty much screwed.... Yep flood it and hope for the best

I think most of us have done this before. Some things I have learned is to not go with the bigger numbers. Use stuff that is for veggies. Never fertilize a dry plant. Only apply away from the roots. This keeps the plant from getting burt and encourages the roots to spread. The roots on a pumpkin can grow out a lot farther than you would think. Water very deep after. A weak liquid folar spray seem to do more good than strong granual applcations for me. I would rather spend a buck on a bag of steer manure to mix into my soil.

One handfull of Ammonium Sulfate won't have any effect on your plant unless you poured it right on the stump. I regularly use ammonium sulfate and in fact I applied about 10 lbs of the stuff under my plants last night! This was likley about 30 hadfulls to 7 plants. I would be very careful NOT to over water. Depending on your OM level and how much manure you have added recently, you can apply upwards of 7-10 lbs / 1000ft2 of AMS. as long as it is uniformly applied, you won't see any adverse effects.
I think you problem is too much water, not too much fertilizer

please tell us it isnt in peat pot...lol. Take your hand and wipe away the surface soil with ferts and spread it around a bit....a handfull shouldnt do too much damage...unless you did other stuff a day before and didnt see results so you did other stuff the NEXT day and didnt see results....and on and on...

How did you prepare your soil before you planted? What type of soil do you have?

I think you pumpkin will be fine if you just leave it alone for awhile. Just have you parents water when it needs it for now.
