hey all i got a stupid ? about watering when i water my pumpkin seems to slow but when i lay off the water a bit it seems to pick back up speed im i over watering?

interesting. I have to say I do not know. I have noticed this with other plants though so have tended to like to let the plant get thirsty-NOT DEHYDRATED though b/c obviously they wilt up and cry ha-ha. Good question...? I do not have an answer but will be waiting for someone who does.

never heard of it before.how do you measure growth with and without watering? especially during such a short period of time?
if your talking about tape measurements they will never be accurate if you take them daily.
measuring ever day is a good way to get yourself all riled up for nothing. measure every four to seven days

i just water as needed and let mother nature take care of the rest.

I've tried watering every other day even in the summer to see if it works better than daily watering and am still not sure, one way or the other. I grew my 1038 that year and watered a bit more often last year and ended out at 937.5 but . . . I'll probably water more this year! If I get my warm water hooked up I definitely will.

I would advise learning your soil and what it needs over what you hear or are suggested. My patch has excellent soil but I am also in an area that is very wet. The ground water is just a few feet down. So in my patch less is more. The best growing years I have had is when it is dry and I can control the amount of moisture. If you grab a good handful of soil a couple of inches below your surface and make a ball. If the ball keeps its shape than you are probably too wet. if the soil imediately falls apart you are probably ok. Our region, soil, climate and temps all vary so greatly that you really need to be a scientist and discover what works best for your patch. Just my opinion.

I like to make them look and work for it.I think if the soil is always damp close to the plant it could become lazy just like your kids. Show them there going to have to work to make it in this world.

They weird thing with my plant was I was sick and didn't take care off for three days. I can back and it is vining.

There are a couple of other things I think you need to consider outside of the watering. Temperature, sun, and when you are feeding the plant. We've had fairly cool weather here in Colorado this spring. Many of the growers here saw very little plant growth last week because of it. This week the temperatures got into the high eighties and the plant started running again. Water could definitely be a factor but other things could be coming into play too.
