Does anyone know the name of the chemical/s that hog farmers use to knock the smell down from their manure piles? I live near a farm operation and there are piles and piles of the "black gold" just waiting for me to get, but. I just want ot make sure the chemicals are pumpkin safe.

Hogs have very solid manure. I don't know what they use in IN but I have seen lime used to keep down smells on most livestock manure here in CA. Any manure that is composted will not have a smell. The main thing you will want to do with it is get air into it. I run my tiler over my manure to mix it with vegetation or shavings to keep it loose. Any leaves or hay will also work. Then I wet it as I pile it to compost. I turn my pile at least twice a week and it does not smell. My hogs are gone now but I still have pot bellied pigs, 12+ goats, a few hundered turkeys, ducks and chickens and about 20 horses. Lots of manure.
