Anyone out there know a thing or two about sprinler/irrigation pumps? i have like a zillion questions! :)

I'm no expert, but I do pump water from a nearby river to water my patch. Perhaps I can cross a few of the easy ones off your list.

I also pump out of the river in the backyard. I use an old shallow well house pump with a cartridge filter out of it with no tank. There is a footvalve on the end of the suction line in the water. I run it on an outlet timer that you can set in 1/2 hr increments. With the help of a 6 valve manifold of Y fittings I can run soaker, mini-sprinkler, mister heads, impact sprinkler or straight from the hose with no trouble. I regulate the pressure for the soakers and mini heads by bleeding off water to the open hose. Probably more than you wanted to know Scott, hope some of it helps.

okay, can someone explain to me the difference between jet pumps, booster pumps, and sprinkler pumps? i need to do something because my water pressure is only 3.5 gph at my house, and its not enough. So i dont really know what i need, or the pros and cons of any of it. id also like to wire in a controller to the pumping device and i dont know if that's possible either........someone set me straight!!

also, i dont know if this is possible, but can you wire a gas powered pump to operate off of a controller? i dont know how you could get it to start/stop though.....tell me everything! i need more power !!

Just replaced a sub well pump at our house last month. It is 1hp that pumps 10 gal/min. 3.5 gal/hour sounds really too low.... Do you have city water or a well? Tom

Scott, never heard of anything to operate something gas powered - I have a gas powered greenhouse heater with a thermostat, but it will only reduce the gas flow and never stop it cause you can´t inflame it again without you to be the "firebug".
You´ll need to use the complete electronic equipment of a central gas heating for your pump...look for some ordinary power supply.

Scott, We have a 5HP pump. The other one broke after 14yrs. Our pump is a 111ft. Pump, pipes, electral wiring and swith to install. $3800. The well was already dug. Thank goodness or another couple of $1000.
