This year we added too much nitrogen in the form of horse manuer to the patch. Out nitrogen was at 71ppm. We had one plant that would not set females and now one that is producing really ugly pumpkins. The blossom end is snouted and as soon as it started to grow rubs formed up right away and today the it cracked along a rib. The pumpkin was only 50 lbs or so when all this was happening. Could this be an outcome of too much nitrogen? or what else?

I would not contribute it to N if you had 71 ppm...Sounds like genetics... You got and ugly one. Enjoy it!!

Bring it to Topsfield. I hear they have an award for ugliest. Also, aborts can be caused by lots of things including not enough water and heat over 90-95 degees. CT had good weather this year. I am lucky so far.
