my dad has an old spray pump that he used to kill weeds and ran water thourgh it and sprayed all the old chemical out could we use this to run fish fertlizer through

No!!! I recall someone doing that in the past and it ruined their plants.

A pump sprayer will cost you about $8 at home depot. Buy 2 or more of them and label them for a specific use.

2,4-D can be neutralized with bleach or ammonia (NOT BOTH!)but not if it has been absorbed into rubber. Any plastic or metal sprayer can be properly cleaned of 2,4-D & reused for pumpkins. However the rubber hose(s), o-rings, seals & diaphragms should all be changed.
