For the record: The last time I shipped a 50 lb bag it cost almost $20 just here within New England. Rates have since increased.
Craig speaks the truth -
UPS + 50 lb bags = Bad Mojo

Perhaps the distant growers should consider joining a club & making a club purchase. Shipping one pallet by common carrier isn't cheap either. But if a 40 bag pallet costs $100 (example - could be more) to ship the cost per unit drops to $2.50 per bag & the bags should arrive safely. There can be logistics issues. The club would need to arrange an acceptable receiving destination, pool their payment into a single transaction, etc.

Be careful with Oyster shells. I used a lot of them and my pH went up to 7.8. They are high in calcium. It's been h... to bring it back down to 6.8 - 7.0. Garden sulfur didn't do much for me. I talked with Dwaine (Doc) and he was the one who told me to watch Oyster shells in raising your pH. I'll probably never use them again. Just Gypsum from now on.

Sam Durst (sam1962) brought some to sell at the spring Indiana growers meeting last year. I remember it was a great price. I wonder if he can do that again. I think he bouht an entire pallet and sold what he didnt need.
