For those of us who are still learning how to get bigger pumpkins, this link might be good for some additional information.
http://www.ext.vt.edu/news/periodicals/commhort/pulledarticles/2005-03/pumpkins.html
I know last year I added to much nitrogen to two otherwise healthy pumpkin plants, and I only got one pumpkin. It could have been several factors since the insects feasted on my plants, but having more information before beginning this years test is better than guessing for me.
The link to the Rutger's site for Presidedress Soil Nitrate Test (Psnt)is:
http://www.rcre.rutgers.edu/pubs/publication.asp?pid=E285
Then they have a PDF file that is a good reference.
