I have read that it is important to remove "Example" every other secondary vines, all tertiary vines, and various other pruning styles. Do you continue to prune once your pumpkin has set? If so to what degree? Obviously I am new at this! thanks Kathy Truong Lewistion Maine

Yes, you must continue to prune after fruit set. The plants will continue to send out vine leaders at the crown area and at the leaf nodes of the secondary vines. Trim them off for maximum fruit size.

Some growers may prefer to leave a couple of growing areas on a plant for the duration of the summer in the belief that it stimulates increased sink production. However, this issue of prunning is up for debate.

Ive pruned back LARGE, My fruit was a late set on July 27th
its 22 ft out from the stump at one point it had 40 ft of main past the fruit, shes now got 10 ft of main past the fruit and 22 ft before the fruit and shes growing strong.

ive also got an second fruit pollinated Aug 20th it was set on a secondary 20 ft past the fruit about 15 ft out on the secondary, the secondary was burried and had good a root systemm I cut the secondary free from the main plant to see what would happen, the fruit is still growing strong and is around the 50 lb mark, I'm growing this fruit basically for a porch pumpkin for halloween, its awsome how a fruit can still grow when its vine has been cut off the main plant. My main fruit 22 ft out is well over 300 lbs and putting on roughly 20-35 lbs a day.

ive read thats how people clone their pumpkin plants. they let the vine grow over a pot filled with dirt. cover the vine, let it root, then cut it off from the vine from which it came, once it has established a good root system before the pot.
