Do you guys continue to foiler feed your plants even when the ground is still wet? Reason I ask is because over the past 3 days we have recieved close to 6" of rainfall. the ground is Very wet but all the plants seem to be takeing this rain well as it hasnt rained in over a month with temps in the high 90's.
Just curious if its allright to keep up with foiler feeding while the soil is still pretty wet?
thanks Dave

Burrhead - you foliar feed every evening? I thought the most often we should feed is approx. weekly. It's different for foliar feeding? Which (numbers) miracle-gro should I be using? Thanks! Craig

Craig, It all depends on the rate. If you fed your plant a one lb. bag of Miracle-gro every saturday. then switched to feeding it 1/7 of a bag every day- then the rate is the same. Some like the 2nd better because the feeding is leved out and more constant. It just depends on if you have enough time to feed everyday. The next question then is ... what rate should I use ? how much should I be feeding them ? well if you ask ten different growers you'll probably get ten different answers to that question. the range would probably be from nothing to 10 lbs per plant per week. So it depends on how good your soil is, what type it is and if you think you need to add a little, some or a lot of fertilzer to help you get the results that you desire.
so it is really up to you. the next question usually is ... but how do I know and where do i start ? again there is no firm answer. It's all kind of hand waving black magic smoke and mirors ... But I heard this once - some where - 1 lb per plant per week with a 20-20-20 type fert. if you can only get miracle grow that is 15-30-15 - the try that. and go from there. but there is no subsitute for good soil. and the answer there is always the same ... add lots of organic matter to your soil to make it good. good luck

DAVE-- There are all sorts of options for foliar feeding --fish- seaweed - molasses-- AGRO-K ---at this time of year your N should be around 10-- P around 5 and k at 5--something with micronutrients alway feed evenings or morins--and feed every day ----grow em big---craig

Gordon and Old Man -
I'm looking at my 3 boxes of Miracle-Gro, I have 20-20-20, 18-18-21 and 10-52-10. Is it better to use one of these at a certain time during the growing season? Thanks for your patience, I appreciate it.

the saying goes ... for the three numbers ... N, P, K ... up, down, all around N- Nitrogen, helps the above ground part of the plant grow and keeps it green. think of fert for your lawn ... usually they are a 28-3-3 ... to green up the lawn and get it growing well. P- phosphorus helps the root system. K- Potassium- need for over all plant and fruit growth.
Here is a good link that explains N, P and K better than I can ... plus it covers other esentials as well. http://www.umass.edu/plsoils/soiltest/interp1.htm
so the 10-52-10 is normally used at the begining of the season to help the roots get established. many growers don't fertilize at all a couple of weeks before and during the pollinating period. after the fruit is set the 20-20-20 or 18-18-21 would be good. they are basically the same.

Not to intrude on your conversation but, gordon, phosphorus also helps develop flowers
