Hi all, I have decided I want to be the organizer of this seed exchange. I think covid allowed several people to grow interesting seeds and these seeds should be shared with other people. I would like to see who is interested and then I can estimate how many seeds each person should donate. Thanks, Leif

I would like to participate. I’m a first year grower and managed a 535 lb pumpkin only because of the genetics. This pumpkin should have easily been several hundred pounds heavier but I had to learn a lot of lessons the hard way.

Last year I got a seed of an AG x blue moon squash. It is over 100 lbs. Perfectly round and bluish-green in colour. The seeds from this should produce all sorts of interesting results.

Good for you 97 pounder. This may be a bit premature but what can folks outside the US expect in terms of postage. Thanks again.

I'm not sure if seeds will be able to be shipped outside of the US because of COVID. Countries are being very strict in what they are allowing into the country. I lost a set of seeds from the Spain auction when US customs destroyed them. Other countries may do the same with incoming seeds.

I was concerned about that as well. I think Europe will be too expensive if it is able to happen. Canada might be a possibility though.

There are ag regulations. Shipping to and from EU is always a problem as ag regs get in way
Seeds back and forth between USA and Canada are permuted withing ag regulations as long as not bulk. then regs are different. .

I’m signing zeke up...he sent me his seeds...(So cool)..I’ll get them to him in Canada...for anyone new to this, sign up here if you have seeds to share in little packs for probably 40ish people...Leif will let us know..doesn’t matter what u have...there’ll be tons of different seeds.. some of my favs over the years have been- peter peppers- the “hots” like ghost pepper, sunflowers, giant carrot, giant cucumber,...you’ll be shocked at the amount and variety of seeds you get for the cost of postage and a little time packing and labeling seeds...one our favs from last year was the milkweed!!!... sign up, don’t be shy...thanks again for doing this Leif ...you have big shoes to fill as Brandon did a great job last year. What a season for Bigpumpkins.com!!!!!!!!

I am here to help. If needed just email me. I marked the international ones as garden seed and we didnt have problems.. but thats why its good to have a few extra lots in case any dont make it... it was a bit expensive but worthwhile.
Thanks for taking over Leif... I have no worries about you being in charge.

I think 40 packs given the 26 that have signed up so far. Looks much less than last years. Should I put it on the general discussion page? I think we should give 1-3 of heavier seeds and if you have more of lighter seeds or less germination rate maybe 5-7. I think its nice to give a lot of seeds, but that adds a substantial cost to shipping.

I am estimating now about 60 seed packs. We have 43 signed up so far. I am guessing another 10-15 will sign up. Does anyone have contact with Ken? It looks to be about a $600 cost for postage and the packages themselves. I am happy to cover some of the cost, but I think we will need a few extra packs to be sold to make it less expensive. This is way more successful than I originally thought. I hope many more sign up.

Would people participating in this be willing to pay $5 to pay for some of the shipping expense? I want this to be a sustainable seed exchange that does not require anyone to pay much, but not bring the cost all back to me.

Its up to you how you want to run it. But speaking from my experience running it last year, we should all chip in for the return postage. But ideally a few packs could be auctioned off to help subsidize the international shipping. Pretty sure Ken would be fine with this, he was ok with it last year.

Not in seed exchange but I do order seeds from the USA and for that many seeds and packets $10.00 US to Canada is pretty much right on.
And check to see how many can come through customs without causing a RTS.

I went with priority padded envelopes because it was a flat rate with a good volume. Priority was $8.00 last year with tracking and $50 insurance so was a good value. This year the same envelope is 8.40. There might be cheaper options but not by much.

That is the cheapest option I could find. If possible for the U.S. Participants could you send $8? With Canada $10. That would make it so much easier on me. Thanks for the info spudder and G. Kins

I would like to start the organizing process. 60 seed packs is my current estimate. I would like every participant to email me: leifeliritter@gmail.com. Title: seed exchange In actual email: Name bp handle seed/seeds you have. Please send this info only and in this order. I will record responses in a data sheet and respond with my adress. I want you to wait until November 1st after everyone has signed up for final quantity of seeds. Thanks, Leif

After I determine the final quantity of seed packs needed. I would like you to ship your seeds within 2 weeks of November 1st. I will wait until January 1st to mail out seeds. There is too much chance of packages getting lost in December.
