The vegetable garden today. Heirloom tomatoes, lettuce, kale, peppers, cucumber, marigolds, and a Peri-Peri aka African Red Devil Pepper Plant. Planting on the bottom of the rows drew some curiosity from other gardeners, yet is pretty common in Portuguese gardens. It makes watering easy as we place the hose at one end of the trenches and also provides some wind protection to small seedlings. It reminds me of how very few of us plant pumpkins on mounds these days as we want water and nutrients flowing towards our plants, not away.
