This is the 5.24 in hydro. It should be behind the soil because of tough love (top level dryness). This was done to get the plant to sink roots into the nutrient solution. Even with a week of no food and being almost dry it is bigger than the soil. The difference will soon start to get more pronounced as more roots reach the food. I think hydro is where I can grow the biggest if I can avoid crashing a finicky system. Hydro is not forgiving.
