I was going to post the weekly update on the 6.23 but not much to report. The first blossom I have my doubts about. Only about 25% chance of having a set on it. I have another at the next truss that is about to open. 200 uWatts/cm2 is too much. I have cooked alot of leaves. Dropped it to 100 uWatts for 4 hours per day for the 6.23 and the rest of the plants. I am still a believer in the benefit of uv-b light but have to work out the right dosage. Haven't found out much info on the internet other than weed growers that use uv-b in the final 3 weeks of their grow. This is a picture of my carrot that was started in May. I have trimmed most of the summer growth from it. What you see is the new growth since the end of Oct. I am being very conservative with it. If It can go until weighoff next fall it will be a 17 month old carrot. World record long carrot was grown for 14 months so I think 17 might be possible. I have ordered a replacement light for the 600 watt metal halide it is currently under. It will be a 4200 k ceramic metal halide at 315 watts. The new light will put out a better spectrum at more intensity and less heat output. The new light is not cheap though ..$470 per light. It will take 2 years for the new light to pay for itself in electric costs. Three more weeks to get my second carrot pot ready. Stay tuned...soil chiller and multi-level irrigation on the radar.
