Root systems are great under the carpet layer. Not only have the taproots gone thru the carpet, the entire root system appears normal down into the subsoil area and thriving not choked from a lack of air like I thought they would be. I thought I would smell a musty anaroebic smell but quit thee opposite, it smells clear and earthy not moldy and sweet. This is one heck of a weed barrier and I guess like I thought thee old style 1950's-60's heavy burlap weave allows air to get under and through it. The melons are putting on weight so I guess time will really tell.
