682 is my favorite. Filling out to a nice solid shape and had a growth rate which exceeds the earlier pollinated (by 7 days) 874.8.

Plant of 874.8 looks great, growth is fine but cantalouping observed on front and back of pumpkin. First time observing it this early

Problem with 874.8 stem. Vine can not move out of the way quick enough in the direction of the blue arrow. Pumpkin is growing fast in direction of red arrow and threatens to pull itself of the vine.

A good omen in my books.
Last found one of these in the patch in 2013 and that was a great year

Metal bar scraped pumpkin. 1cm at deepest.
Clean. Sulphur dusted and appears dry. No seeping.
I'm an idiot.
Chance of it keeping?

Taping 357" on Day 55 a couple of days back. Beautiful pumpkin even with the scar. Still growing well but the weather is cold and damp and powdery mildew is spreading fast through the patch.
PM isn't an issue initially as it doesn't take much energy from the plant. Main issue is that it blocks light to the leaves and so photosynthesis is limited.
Biggest problem is keeping the scar dry in the damp air and with some good UK growers losing pumpkins this year, ca. 35 days left is a long way yo go to keep it from rotting

Nice to see this one doesn't have an ugly side.
Can't wait to see it harvested.
This will most likely be a display pumpkin at the Malvern Autumn Show but not entered into the competition.

Second pumpkin is a lump. Tapes lessvthan the 682 outside but not measured for a while. This one will go heavy, is heavily cantalouped and plant has 50% PM on the leaves. Not going to worry about that and will leave this one to tick over. May take it to York Maze, hoping and expecting it will hit 1000lbs. Two pumpkins in the patch.....beauty and the beast

The weather is about to improve a little, the plant remains healthy and the fruit looks young still.
30 days until harvesting on 27th September, unless its still growing then I'll have a dilemma

682 has slowed down a lot although its still growing as i can tell its filling out still. 5 days of growing left then harvest time. Need to hire a trailer wide enough as it doesn't fit in the back of a Fiat Ducatto.

We created a display garden at the Malvern Show with carver Simon McMinnis. Did a guess the weight competition for the visitors but still didn't know the weight ourselves as the scales maxed out at 600 Kg
